Men compared to women, it’s logical to say that in a lot of cases men are naturally stronger so better lifting heavy weights, and there are a lot who would argue that men come out on top… well so they thought!
This completely viral challenge, however, that is now doing the rounds in Tik Tok really does throw all those ideas to the wind…
This little trick, that has been called the “chair challenge”, shows us the reality of who is superior, you stans exactly three of your own feet away from the wall.
Then you bend over and put the top of your head against the wall.
Here is the ‘hard’ part, when you try to stand up whilst holding a chair held to your chest, sounds simple right?
Well, we think you should give it a try!
Many tens of videos are popping up all over the place on social media, and men just can’t do it, while we women find it a breeze.
Men, on the other hand, really find it hard to stand up while holding the chair??
What a funny thing it is too, and in most all of the cases, the various men who fail to do it also find it pretty funny too. Wife and girlfriends find it even funnier, women are obviously the superior, and the winners of course!
This man’s sister is left, completely in hysterics as he tries to stand up with the chair… or not!
Twitter user @SamTwizzy5 moans in frustration as he fails terribly to do the challenge.
How you can do the “chair challenge”
OK to get you started, how do you do the challenge?
Don’t forget to get your phone out and take a little video of the result!
- Stand up against the wall and exactly take three footsteps back, toe to heel!
- Place a chair in front of you, and your head will go up against the wall over it.
- Bend over now, making a 90-degree angle with your body, see photos above!
- Place the top of your head against the wall.
- Pull the chair up to your chest, then keeping your head against the wall…
- Now comes the real challenge… try to stand up straight, taking the chair with you
Why can’t men do the challenge?
Easy, they are inferior to women, right? However, scientists have a few theories, in a bid to explain why guys can’t seem to complete this “chair challenge”.
One of these theories says that its to do with your center of gravity, so the point of your body where your weight is balanced, from top to bottom, is lower for smaller women than for taller men.
Others say that its the size of our feet, and this is the true key to the challenge!
In terms of men and women, it’s generally thought that we have different centers of gravity, well women are usually smaller and men taller, so in this case its true.
For men, it’s their chest the chair is against, but for women, it’s in their waist-to-hip area, they have better leverage, right? We still think that women are better, don’t you?
US scientist Jeremy Johnson says:
“Interestingly enough, many girls can successfully complete this challenge, while most boys cannot.”
“The center of mass for most girls is lower to the hips, while the center of mass in boys is much higher.
“Therefore, for most girls, the center of mass while bent over the chair is above their feet, while the center of mass for most boys is above the chair.”
However, Professor Brian Ford at Cambridge University, sais that most men’s failure to do the challenge has more to do with the size of their feet though, well it’s possible right.
He said to the NewsPaper:
“It is true that women have a lower center of gravity than men, by several centimeters.”
“But that has no bearing on this crafty little trick.”
“Men have longer feet than women. Two paces back for a man would be some 60cm, for a woman it’s more like 50cm.”
“So to begin with, the man is forced further away from the wall.”
“The man’s larger feet mean he is farther away from the wall than the woman and is thus leaning forward.”
“The woman’s legs are closer to the wall, and are thus leaning back.”
Professor Ford stated that this puts women at an advantage in the challenge.
But whatever anyone tells you, give it a try and enjoy the results, and tell us how it worked out too in the comments, we would love to know!
